Green Houses
by Cathy Harris, Sales Representative
Buying a house is an exciting adventure but knowing how you can fulfill your dream and take care of your environment is important as well. There are a few things that we can do as buyers to watch for that are helpful for our environment.
Simple things such as energy efficient appliances, updated furnaces that are more efficient, newer windows that keep your heat in instead of out and low fume paints that are better for the environment.
The government is offering a Renovation Tax Credit to help with the cost of renovating your eligible dwelling. It offers a tax break for repairs on your home. Replacing windows or doors, re-shingling a roof and even putting a fresh coat of paint on your walls are eligible. Follow this link for more information on the 2009 Home Renovation Tax Credit.
You can also apply for the ecoENERGY Retrofit Homes Grant which entitles a homeowner up to $5000.00 to offset the cost of making energy efficiency improvements to their home. Follow this link for more information on the ecoENERGY Retrofit Homes Grant.
So why not act now and take advantage of one these government sponsored tax credit programs and feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
